Job Description UPMC McKeesport is hiring full-time Medical
Laboratory Scientists and Medical Lab Technicians to join our team
of excellent lab professionals! Qualified candidates can receive up

Sign-on bonus details include the following: /n · $10,000 (MLT) /
$15,000 (MLS) for a 2-year commitment /n Applicants will be placed
into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual
experience and education. /n · Medical Lab Technician salary range:
$21.48 - $31.19/hr. /n · Medical Laboratory Scientist salary range:

can take you! /n Responsibilities: /n /n - Performs in accordance
with system-wide competencies/behaviors. /n - Performs other duties
as assigned. /n - Adhere to established laboratory and hospital
policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality
assurance, safety, compliance and personnel policies. Follow
established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as
required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the
appropriateness and stability of the sample. Perform qualitative
and quantitative analytical procedures according to established
protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient
manner. /n - All duties inclusive of an MLT (Medical Laboratory
technician), and: /n - Assume responsibility for first-line
supervision of the section/department on a temporary basis as
delegated. /n - Conduct, direct or assist with test development and
methodology/equipment evaluation, selection and implementation. /n
- Interact with all laboratory customers courteously and
professionally; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner.
/n - Maintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and
instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological
conditions affecting test results. /n - Operate and maintain
equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules
and written instructions to perform quality control checks,
preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use
reagents and supplies in a cost-effective manner; monitor and
maintain an appropriate supply inventory. /n - Performs High
Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct
supervision. /n - Recognize critical, abnormal and unacceptable
test results and follow-up according to established protocols.
Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate
the necessary corrective action according to established protocols.
Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens,
supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined
protocols. /n - Train and orient new employees, students and
residents, as applicable and as assigned. /n Medical Laboratory
Scientist: /n · Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited
college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited
Medical Technology program, /n · OR Bachelor of Science degree from
an accredited college/university with a major in biological,
chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP
categorical certification, /n · OR Bachelor of Science degree from
an accredited college/university with a major in biological,
chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two
years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical
Laboratory technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory, /n · OR
equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 and PA
Bureau of Laboratories for technologist performing high complexity
testing. Prefer 1-year experience in a hospital laboratory. /n ·
Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems
preferred. /n Medical Lab Technician: /n · Associate degree in a
laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate)
from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory
Technician (MLT), or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA), /n ·
OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a
major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory
science AND ASCP or equivalent certification, /n · OR Bachelor of
Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in
biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, /n
· OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for
individuals performing high complexity testing, /n · Minimum 1
years’ experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. /n ·
Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information
systems preferred /n Licensures, Certifications, and Clearances: /n
Required: /n · Act 34 /n Preferred - ASCP Certification: /n ·
Medical Technologist MT(ASCP), /n · Medical Laboratory Scientist
MLS (ASCP), /n · Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP), /n ·
Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or equivalent certification
