Job Description
Join the Naval Nuclear Laboratory in an entry level Mechanical
Drafter role! In this role you will apply fundamental design,
drafting, technical illustration, graphic design, animation, and
virtual visualization concepts, practices, and procedures in
accordance with prevailing military, industrial, and corporate
standards.
Duties include but not limited to:
Develop, review, and update simple systems of 3D models, and
engineering drawings, using Creo computer-aided design software to
depict equipment, and systems.
Create/revise detail and assembly drawings from conceptual layouts
and sketches in accordance with established drafting standards
using Creo 3D solid modeling software.
Perform other drafting duties such as preparing lists of material,
revising existing drawings and performing simple calculations
relative to basic stresses, centers of gravity, clearance fits and
to establish the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing necessary
to satisfy the design requirements.
Apply a working knowledge of fabrication and joining shop methods,
equipment capabilities, and manufacturing processes as applied to
the design/development of mechanical equipment.
Must be able to work from the verbal and written directions of
engineering and senior drafting personnel.
May be required to research projects independently or acquire
subject knowledge by consulting with product developers and
applying knowledge of the latest drafting/design technology.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in
design and drafting technology or mechanical, facility or
electrical design related field.
Preferred Skills
Working knowledge of prevailing military and industrial
design/drafting standards, including Geometric Dimensioning and
Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
Industrial piping standards including 3-D modeling/drafting using
Creo
Preferred Course work should include subjects such as algebra,
geometry, trigonometry, strength of materials, mechanical design &
drafting techniques and Creo (CADDS).
Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0/4.0 preferred.

Pay Range
$55,000 - $84,200 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned
