Registered Nurse (RN) | Urology Location: State College, PA Agency: Magnet Medical Pay: $1,760 per week Shift Information: Days - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 7 Weeks Start Date: 2/1/2026 About the Position TravelNurseSource is working with Magnet Medical to find a qualified Urology RN in State College, Pennsylvania, 16801! A Registered Nurse (RN) – Urology specializes in the care of patients with urological conditions, which include diseases or disorders of the urinary system, kidneys, bladder, and male reproductive organs. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing treatments such as surgeries, biopsies, and diagnostic procedures for conditions like urinary tract infections (UTIs), prostate cancer, kidney stones, incontinence, and other urological issues. The Urology RN collaborates with urologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. Key Responsibilities : Patient Assessment and Care : Conduct thorough assessments of patients with urological conditions, including medical history, physical exams, vital signs, and laboratory results. Monitor and evaluate patients’ responses to treatments, medications, and urological procedures. Provide care for patients undergoing urological surgeries, including preoperative preparation, postoperative monitoring, and pain management. Educate patients on their condition, treatment options, and how to manage symptoms at home, such as catheter care or managing incontinence. Preoperative and Postoperative Care : Prepare patients for urological procedures (e.g., cystoscopy, prostatectomy, nephrectomy) by explaining the procedure and ensuring informed consent is obtained. Administer prescribed medications, including antibiotics and pain management, in preparation for or after urological procedures. Monitor for postoperative complications such as bleeding, infection, or urinary retention and report concerns to the medical team. Provide wound care, including catheter insertion and maintenance, post-surgery. Urological Procedure Support : Assist in urological diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including catheterization, cystoscopy, bladder instillations, and biopsies. Ensure the proper use and maintenance of urological equipment, such as catheters, drainage tubes, and collection devices. Monitor the patient’s condition during procedures and assist the physician as needed. Patient Education and Counseling : Educate patients about managing urological conditions, including lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and fluid management. Instruct patients on self-care techniques, such as catheter care, bladder training, and pelvic floor exercises for conditions like incontinence. Provide counseling and support to patients with chronic urological conditions, including those facing diagnoses like prostate cancer or kidney disease. Provide information on preventive measures to avoid recurrent infections, manage urinary retention, or prevent kidney stones. Infection Control and Safety : Follow strict infection control practices when handling urological devices, such as catheters, to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and other complications. Administer and monitor prescribed antibiotics to prevent or treat infections. Ensure proper aseptic technique when performing procedures like catheter insertion or wound dressing changes. Collaboration and Care Coordination : Work closely with urologists, surgical teams, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients. Coordinate care across various healthcare settings, such as outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and home care. Collaborate with dietitians, physical therapists, and other specialists to address any additional needs related to the patient’s urological health. Pain Management : Assess and manage pain related to urological conditions, procedures, or surgeries. Administer prescribed pain medications and monitor their effectiveness. Use alternative pain management strategies such as relaxation techniques, heat/cold therapy, or bladder retraining. Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, procedures, treatments, medications, and patient responses in the electronic health record (EHR). Report any adverse events, changes in patient status, or complications to the healthcare team in a timely manner. Ensure all documentation complies with legal, regulatory, and hospital standards. Professional Development and Quality Improvement : Participate in continuing education to stay current with advances in urological care and nursing practices. Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and care standards for urology patients.
