THE POSITION
The Somerset County Maintenance Office of the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation is actively looking for qualified
individuals to apply for the role of Assistant Highway Maintenance

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will oversee the highway maintenance
operations within a designated area of a County Maintenance
Organization. Your responsibilities will include comprehensive
planning for all activities conducted in the region, managing the
general crews assigned to that area, coordinating agility-related
initiatives, and supervising specialized crew operations. You will
provide direct oversight to crew supervisors, ensuring hands-on
management of projects as required. Additionally, you will direct
all aspects of seasonal highway maintenance, which encompasses
minor construction projects on state highways. This role
necessitates meticulous planning, scheduling, and control of all
operations, including winter snow removal efforts. Availability
around the clock is essential for responding to emergencies or
weather-related incidents, and you will be required to supervise
winter operations, which may involve driving in adverse weather
conditions at any hour.
Furthermore, you will actively promote the Agility program within
your assigned region by building partnerships and negotiating work
plans that align with appropriate agreements. Engaging in forums
that support the growth of Agility will be a key part of your role,
as you work to enhance the Department's reputation through outreach
to customers and partners. You will integrate Agility initiatives
into everyday activities, such as conducting planning visits with
potential partners during routine road surveys or initiating
customer interactions during work site inspections. It is also
crucial to ensure that subordinate foremen receive adequate
training in all facets of highway maintenance and crew supervision,
enabling them to operate independently in routine maintenance
tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employmentWork
hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute
lunch.During winter season, shifts will vary from 4:00 AM to 12:00
PM noon; 12:00 PM noon to 8:00 PM; or 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This
position may be eligible for Alternate Work Schedule (AWS).
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework)
part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely
configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved
location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you
will have the option to report to the headquarters office in
Somerset.Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:One year of experience
as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator,
or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or
equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the
Office of Administration); orSix years of technical experience in
highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy
equipment used in highway construction projects; orAn equivalent
combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:This position requirespossession of a valid PA
non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
